News to know
April school meals
School lunch menus for April are available online. Meals can be paid through InTouch Receipting.
Curriculum review opportunity
This school year, Washington state began requiring public schools to teach students about sex trafficking prevention. Select high school PE 2 classes are participating in a pilot program this spring, and those families have been notified. Next year, the district plans to implement the curriculum, which was adapted for BGPS and provided at no cost through the nonprofit Shared Hope International. Before the full implementation, you can learn about the curriculum and see the materials during the Keep Our Kids Safe community night on April 16. The pilot program materials are also available on the district website. There will be additional opportunities to review the materials next school year.
School board meeting recap
The Battle Ground Public Schools board of directors met on Monday, March 23, for a regular meeting. See a video and summary of the meeting. The board voted to approve the following:
USDA food processor contracts
A resolution to surplus a portion of the district's property at Parkway Avenue and Main Street to grant the city of Battle Ground a temporary construction easement
Waterline easements on the new Battle Ground Virtual Academy campus
The board will meet next on Monday, April 13, for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting is open to the public at the Lewisville campus and streaming online.
Input on budget cuts: See the report
Students; parents and guardians; staff members; volunteers; community members; and faith-based, business, and governmental partners all provided input on budget cuts for the 2026-27 school year. While the perspectives were varied and did not always align, we are considering all of the ideas and suggestions as we make decisions. We are grateful to those who took the time to provide input. See the report.
Washington schools: Underfunded & overburdened
Post McCleary “solution,” the state still hasn’t met its constitutional duty to fully fund public education and schools are being asked to do more now than ever before. Washington state ranks 40th in the nation in investment in K-12 education as a percentage of the state’s total economy. Learn more about the core issues in school funding.
ASVAB testing
In April, high school juniors and seniors will have a chance to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB. Scores are used to determine if someone is qualified to enlist in the military and to assign someone to an appropriate job in the military. Scores above 31 also will fulfill graduation pathway requirements. Register online by April 18 for the test on April 25.
Report, don’t repost
If you see or hear of a possible threat, please report it to law enforcement directly and/or to school staff. This is the best and most helpful action because it begins an investigation and helps to limit the potential for misinformation to spread. You can report bullying, intimidation, harassment, threats and safety concerns using our reporting system. Emergencies should always be reported to 911.
Battle Ground Education Foundation to host spring soirée
The foundation is holding a special event to support BGPS students. Proceeds from the soirée will directly support Battle Ground Public Schools and help fund Advanced Placement exams, school supplies, extracurricular activities and more opportunities that Battle Ground students deserve. The event is Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Purchase tickets.

Young chefs shine in culinary showcase
Fourth grade students from across the district demonstrated their creativity and skill at the recent Discovery Kitchen Cookoff, a showcase of culinary talent in Battle Ground Public Schools. After submitting recipes for their favorite healthy snacks, the nine contestants had just 90 minutes to bring their vision to life. Chartwells staff helped each student-chef prep and cook their recipe. The final creations were carefully evaluated by a panel of distinguished judges, who evaluated technique, skill and flavor. See photos from the event.
This story and many more from schools across the district were featured in the latest issue of the BGPS Bulletin. Read the issue now.
