News to know
Housing support, clothing available
Students who have experienced housing instability or a loss of housing (even for just one night during the school year) may be eligible to receive McKinney-Vento services. These services include continued attendance at their current school, full participation in school-related activities, transportation to and from school, free school meals and academic support. Complete a housing questionnaire or contact your child’s school or the Family and Community Resource Center. The center also maintains a clothing closet with donated clothing and shoes as well as hygiene and household items, some cleaning supplies and school supplies. The closet is open to any student currently enrolled in a BGPS school and their family. Learn more and make an appointment to shop.
Curriculum review opportunity
This school year, Washington state began requiring public schools to teach students about sex trafficking prevention. Select high school PE 2 classes are participating in a pilot program this spring, and those families have been notified. Next year, the district plans to implement the curriculum, which was adapted for BGPS and provided at no cost through the nonprofit Shared Hope International. Before the full implementation, you can learn about the curriculum and see the materials during the Keep Our Kids Safe community night on April 16. The pilot program materials are also available on the district website. There will be additional opportunities to review the materials next school year.
Apprenticeship Signing Day
If your high schooler plans to become an apprentice or enter an apprenticeship program after graduation, Battle Ground Public Schools wants to celebrate their achievement. Please fill out this form by May 8 so we can honor them. Apprenticeship Signing Day will take place on Tuesday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lewisville campus (406 NW 5th Ave., Battle Ground).
Coming soon: Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8, and we need your help to celebrate! Tell us about your or your child's favorite teacher(s) before Wednesday, April 30. You can also include a photo of your child and their teacher (please be aware, photos may be used on district websites and social media). The deadline is Wednesday, April 29. Thank you to all of our amazing teachers and our community for helping to recognize the incredible work of our educators.
Registration open for Cascadia Tech Fired Up! Summer Camp
This summer, Cascadia Tech Academy is offering a three-day camp that is designed to ignite the confidence of young women ages 14-19 who are interested in pursuing a career as a firefighter. Students can register even if they do not currently attend Cascadia Tech. The cost is $20, and space is very limited. Visit Cascadia Tech's website for more information and to register.
April school meals
School lunch menus for April are available online. Meals can be paid through InTouch Receipting.

Input on budget cuts: See the report
Students; parents and guardians; staff members; volunteers; community members; and faith-based, business, and governmental partners all provided input on budget cuts for the 2026-27 school year. While the perspectives were varied and did not always align, we are considering all of the ideas and suggestions as we make decisions. We are grateful to those who took the time to provide input. See the report.
Washington schools: Underfunded & overburdened
Post McCleary “solution,” the state still hasn’t met its constitutional duty to fully fund public education and schools are being asked to do more now than ever before. Washington state ranks 40th in the nation in investment in K-12 education as a percentage of the state’s total economy. Learn more about the core issues in school funding.

Inaugural Cram the Cruiser supports high schools
On March 26, the Battle Ground Education Foundation, Battle Ground Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office teamed up to launch the first-ever Cram the Cruiser event. The response from the community netted nearly 8,500 donated snacks to help stock student food pantries at Battle Ground and Prairie high schools. These pantries, supported by School Resource Officer Phil Anderson and Deputy Chelsea Quiggle, play an important role in giving students access to snacks during the school day and strengthening connections in the school community.
The generosity was so overwhelming that both patrol vehicles were completely filled several times. The event’s success was also made possible by the support of Read Northwest, Fire District 3, local elected officials and members of the Pacific Youth Cheerleading organization. Battle Ground Public Schools appreciates the collaboration among these groups to support students!
This is just one example of the many good things happening in our schools every day. For more highlights, visit the news section of the district website, subscribe to the BGPS Bulletin and follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram.
